MQ-000 ζ.2 chosen — methodology pivot extended Thursday 30 April 2026 evening
§1 Context
Resumed paused session 2026-04-30T15:30 (per active-work-log PAUSED entry). First action was to re-surface prior Q-001 (criteria-rederivation) under the morning’s re-derivation methodology v1.0. Rich-surfaced before answering Q-001: “when were the phase 1 questions answered? shall we look at these again? i think there must be lots of good ways to improve the answers we gave at the time.”
This triggered a meta-Q (MQ-000) about prior-work revisit scope. Two-step lock:
Step 1 — meta-Q (5 options + 8 criteria × 5 options scorecard + 10 perturbations):
- Claude recommendation: β (Phase-2.5 checkpoint after Q-001; +1-2 wks; weighted sum 4.25; robust under 8/10 perturbations)
- Rich override: ζ (radical reset; weighted sum 3.20; 1.05-margin override)
Step 2 — ζ-scope sub-Q (3 sub-options + 6 criteria × 3 options scorecard + 8 perturbations):
- Claude recommendation: ζ.2 (semi-bounded — options + Shape X; weighted sum 4.10; median pick)
- Rich confirm: ζ.2 (matches Claude rec)
§2 What ζ.2 means
Re-derive under new methodology:
- The architecture-options selection itself (B / C / D / F / G+ / [6th-option]) — broader option set, not just G+ refinement
- The 8 Shape X angles sequenced after option-selection lock (top-level Asset classes / Role+RoleInstance ODP / C upper / iv-3 verification tiers / α 3-layer T-box / vi-6 OMG Commons / vii-3 file-per-module / viii-3 multi-profile)
Conditionally preserve (re-evaluated in Phase 3 module-authoring against whichever option ζ-Q2 locks):
- 25 cross-module primitives
- 23 SKOS classifier schemes
- 19 A-21 CI gates
- 9-module structure
- All A-1..A-125 amendments (downgraded from “preserved as audit trail” to “historical evidence informing fresh derivation”)
§3 Why Rich’s override
Claude’s β framing assumed prior-work revisit could be bounded to D-9..D-18 (the 9 closure decisions of late Phase 1). Rich’s framing — “lots of good ways to improve the answers” — pointed at the bigger amendment registry A-1..A-125. β was insufficient scope for the actual concern.
Lesson for future Q-framing: when Rich’s intuition disagrees with a scoped recommendation, the scope itself (not the option choice within scope) is often what’s wrong. Widen first; then re-score.
§4 Audit timeline implications
| Estimate | Pre-MQ-000 | Post-ζ.2 |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-build-start Q-count | 76-122 | 100-150 |
| Pre-build-start wall-clock | 5-8 months | 8-14 months |
| Realistic with audit-slip allowance | 7-10 months | 10-16 months |
| Re-open trigger §6.3(c) (audit-time > 10mo) | Latent | Likely-firing |
| LL v1 ARR cover §6.4 load-bearing? | Yes | More so |
Mitigations baked into design-spec §6.3 still apply:
- Per-phase time-box: Phase 2 closes within 12 weeks of opening (was 6 weeks); Phase 3 within 8 weeks; Phase 4 within 10; Phase 5 within 6
- Build-readiness dry-run after Phase 2 closes
- Re-open trigger criteria
§5 Honest pattern observed
Two methodology pivots in one day:
- 2026-04-30T11:00 — design-spec v1.0 (re-derivation methodology supersedes incremental amendment chains)
- 2026-04-30T16:30 — design-spec v1.1 (ζ.2 broadens revisit scope to options + Shape X)
Both Rich-driven; both durably committed; both reversible if re-open triggers fire. Rapid methodology iteration is fine WHEN each iteration is properly cascaded — durability artefacts (MQ-000.md + design-spec v1.1 + INDEX v2.1 + STARTING-PROMPT v2.1 + memory + active-work-log) preserve audit trail.
§6 Lesson — when scoped recommendation feels wrong, widen scope before re-scoring
Claude’s β was a methodologically-clean recommendation under the scope as Claude framed it. Rich’s override revealed scope was too narrow. The scorecard didn’t help here — β beat ζ by 1.05 within Claude’s frame; Rich’s override said the frame itself was wrong.
Application: when a scorecard recommendation gets overridden by a wide margin (≥1.0 weighted-sum gap), DON’T assume Rich is “going against the analysis” — ASSUME the analysis was scoped wrong. Surface a sub-Q to widen scope (which is exactly what happened here: ζ-scope sub-Q with 3 sub-options ζ.1/ζ.2/ζ.3 confirmed Rich’s preferred granularity = ζ.2 median).
§7 Cascade status (as of 2026-04-30T16:32)
- Stage-1 MQ-000.md committed (commit
33a518b) + pushed + verified - [in-progress] Stage-2 design-spec v1.0 → v1.1 + INDEX v2.0 → v2.1 + STARTING-PROMPT v2.0 → v2.1 + prior Q-001 archive to _pre-zeta/ + richard-tasks-tt.md
- [pending] Stage-3 ζ-Q1 authoring (criteria-frame for broader options) with full library + T-file + web grounding
